In our distribution facilities

Regional Distribution Center Model
The Regional Distribution Center (RDC) model is designed to cut waste out of the supply chain. We have significantly improved our ability to efficiently handle cases at lower energy costs. For example, much of our inbound freight has been converted to rail, and the rest of it has been shifted to move in fully loaded trucks. This means less total trucks on the road with lower fuel consumption to move the same amount of total cases.
Warehouse Energy Efficiency
We have implemented energy-reduction and energy-saving measures in both new facilities and existing operations. For example, lighting retrofits—including motion detectors—and variable frequency controls on refrigeration equipment should help us reach our fiscal year 2007 goal of reducing electric kilowatt hours by five percent.
Pallet Bands
We are replacing shrink-wrap with large, elastic bands to secure pallets of product for storage in the warehouses, creating a positive environmental impact through:
• Reduced shrink-wrap usage
• Reduced garbage/waste
• Increased safety and sanitation
Shrink Management
Shrink management solutions are designed to help reduce inventory shrink expense at the operating company. Overall benefits include:
• Reduced waste
• Increased product integrity
• Increased product safety
